Do you use green or eco-friendly materials in you cabinets?
Yes, we use purebond plywood, solid hardwood lumber, water based glues and are experimenting with water based finishes. Pure bond plywood is made by Columbia Forest Products (USA) and is formaldyhyde free. Visit their website to learn more, (www.cfpwood.com). We have not found a water based finish that is as durable as solvent based finishes. We continue to search various brands to find a suitable replacement for solvent based finishes.

How do I take proper care of my finished wood furniture?
By just dusting with a polish that does not have any fillers (Silicates). Endust or Guardsman Polish are the best. Pledge is the worst...contains silicates.

I have a wall unit with a standard TV, can you convert it to fit plasma TVs?
The depth usually isn't a problem, but older TVs are much smaller (i.e., height and width) then plasma TVs. If side walls and partitions need to be cut and rebuilt to accommodate the new TV, then it is usually better and more cost effective to redesign and build a new wall unit.

Do you design the woodwork? Will you build out woodwork that has been designed by someone else?
I can do either. I welcome the opportunity to work with plans originated by others (i.e., architects, kitchen or interior designers). I also can design and build the entire project. Pictures clients have of design ideas are great reference guides for me when I am trying to design a particular style or item.

Do you do the finish on the cabinets?
Yes. I do all my own finishing. If I get real busy, I subcontract to the shop where I lease their finishing room.

What types of wood do you use?
Normally, I use North American Hardwoods...Oak, Ash, Maple, etc., I can use tropical species if a specific project or look is desired. These wood species cost more to use.

What types of finishes do you use?
For stained projects, I use Sherwin Williams' oil based wiping stains for color and 3 coats of a catalyzed lacquer for a clear, durable finish. For painted projects, I use S&W oil based paints. One coat of primer is used and 2 coats of paint. Either way, S&W does custom color matching.

Are the knobs and/or pulls included? Will you source these if my designer has a recommendation?
My projects are quoted with everything included. I welcome additional sources for new hardware ideas. The aim is to satisfy what a client's needs are.

Do you install? Is that included in your price?
My prices include the entire scope of a project, including installation.

Are you just local in NC, or do you service other areas?
I mainly work in NC, but would not refuse work outside of the state if I can make a profit.

Is there a fee for your estimates/initial consultation?
No...there are no drawings involved. I just want to get a feel for the job and if the person/company is serious.

Do you finance your installations?
No. Fees have been to high for my small volume.

What are your payment terms?
50% deposit with a signed contract. 40% prior to installation, 10% on final approval of installation.

Are glue joints strong enough for fine furniture?
Yes. Glue joints are stronger then the wood itself.

How long will custom furniture last?
50 to 100 years with proper maintenance and minimal abuse. Furniture used daily will need refinishing every 20 years, plus or minus.

Do you offer a warranty?
Yes. First year unconditional on all finishes and craftsmanship. Balance of warranty on a case-by-case basis. (Example: If a drawer slide fails after 3 years or needs adjustment, I would replace at no cost.) However, the warranty is void if the piece is abused or improper care to the finish. (Example: Finish is abused with harsh cleaners or chemicals and fails...Charge to repair.)

How do I prepare for the installation?
Each is different and clearly stated in the contract. NORMALLY, a customer should have the area clear so we can deliver and install.

Can you build my design or my idea? Is there a separate fee for design services if I want you to convert my design?
Yes. The fee for this is 10% of the project cost. This is usually itemized in the contract. This is usually paid up front after acceptance of design and drawings approved.

How long does a piece take to build?
NORMALLY, lead times are 8 weeks from contract signing to delivery. Time can vary depending on work load.

What about outlets on the wall?
I build wall units so outlets can be cut out of the rear of the cabinet and not moved or lost. I do have an electrician that can move outlets at additional cost.

Can you provide lighting?
Yes, and welcome other sources as well.

What can you do about floor vents?
Make allowances in the cabinet base so vents don't have to be moved. Basically, redirect air out of the front of the cabinet base.

How do we run cords and wires to components in the cabinetry?
On basic components (DVD, game station, cable box, radio), I would make allowances in and between cabinets with the use of an open space at the back of shelves for wires and holes bored between cabinets for wires. I provide basic power strips, but DO NOT disassemble and reinstall home theater components for customers. I ask them to do it, or I hire a company to. My expertise is in cabinet making and installation, not stereo components.

Do you have membership with any Trade Organization?
Yes. I am a member of CMA (The Cabinet Makers Association), the Greensboro Merchants Association (GMA) and NKBA (National Kitchen and Bath Association).

Do you display at any Exhibits?
Yes. Usually at The Southern Ideal Home Show held each March at the Greensboro Coliseum.
